Update (and new essay at Jew-Ish.com)

By Eric

Greetings to my throngs of impassioned and obsessed fans. I know it’s been a while since I’ve stepped off the private jet and written anything to quench the wordthirst of my legions, but worry not, I still exist. And I know it’s only out of politeness that nobody asked me why I haven’t posted in weeks. It’s only because you wanted to be nice that you failed to complain. Obviously you cared very much, obviously you fretted at night, unable to sleep due to worry about my well-being and that of this cultural institution Mudville.

Well you can put those worries (and yourselves) to bed. Seriously, I just haven’t had time with school and work lately -I school all day and work all night. It’s like the KISS song, but replace rock and roll with carrying food to people and partying with writing down notes about the breakup of the former Yugoslavia. That’s my life right now.

I did, however, have time to put an (apt) essay together about Jewish identity at Jew-Ish.com. It features Joe Lieberman heavily, but don’t be scared. You won’t have to hear him talk or look at his picture. And really it’s mostly about me. Who doesn’t want to read about me?

One of “Us”

Otherwise, I’ll start posting again regularly in a couple weeks. And soon after that, I hope, this blog will be shifting to its own domain name. No more .wordpress junk. If not to the major leagues, this operation will be moving up to a higher level of the minors. AA here I come.

Take from that what you will,

Eric

I recently read the article you posted on Jew-ish.com titled One of “us”. I found it very it to be a very interesting topic which i will admit, i have never thought about even though I am a Jew
I think the article was well written but completely failed in its quest and left me just as ambiguous at the end as it did at the start especially when you posed the question: “who I’d fight for if Israel and America ever went to war against one another?” Sadly, in situations such as this you do not get to choose which side you would like to be on, the enemy has already chosen. In today’s world being a Jew is no longer just a religion and a cultural but also a nationality whether you are Israeli or not. this is why Jewish cultural and religious centers all over the world are attacked as a protest to the Jewish state of Israel. For example, the Jewish population of Germany, of which many saw themselves as German before Jewish, were not asked which they prefer, but without question labeled. Just like many other Jews in Europe who’s countrymen gave them up. nobody asked this question to them. another example a bit closer to home would be the Japanese American Internment camps in Western United States during WW2. You might see what you want to see in a mirror but the enemy sees you as what they want to see. Again, this is why so many arab’’s are given such hard times in our government and airports.
Another example of the Jewish religion transforming into a nationality in America, would be the amount that Jews campaign for Israeli interests in the government which no matter the motivations (political, religious or economic) play a huge role in Americas foreign policy. Also, jews all over the world donate unprecedentedly to Israel which have tangible direct affects on the country itself. This just goes to show that for Jews In America, Israel is there Home away from home and while they may have never lived there or been there see it that way. Now of course I am generalizing, but taking all of these factors into account when proposes the question: If America and Israel went to war who would you fight for? You would have only to the choice to fight America or fall to America because no matter how we see ourselves, Jews are held to a double standard and that is just how it is. Jews and Israelis become one in the same in this type of situation.
I am what I am to myself, but I am to You, what You see in me.
please email me back with a response if you have one at jojamesjackson@gmail.com if you wish to discuss this.
